Cocktail of the week: Helen Graves’ peach and maple old fashioned – recipe |

I enjoy herbal or fruit teas in the evening, and I’m also impressed by how well the tea bags infuse their flavor into the booze. Since peaches can be an unreliable fruit, I’ve found that using peach-flavored tea bags instead has very consistent effects.

peach and maple old fashioned

service Four

1 and 1/2 tablespoons maple syrup
Bourbon 250ml
1 dash Angostura bitters
1 peach and orange tea bag
or 1 plain peach tea bag
soda waterBack to top (optional)
4 strips orange peelas a garnish

Add maple syrup, bourbon, and bitters to a shaker and shake to combine. Pour into a jar or other sealable container, add tea bags and let stand for several hours or overnight.

Remove and discard the tea bags and pour the infused liquor into 4 Old Fashioned glasses or tumblers. Add a little soda water and garnish with orange zest if you like.
