Coco Gauff’s Olympic activities aren’t going as planned.
The Atlanta native and teammate Jessica Pegula were eliminated in the second round of women’s doubles by Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic at Roland Garros Stadium on Wednesday.
Gauff and Pegula won the first set 6-2 but lost a rain-interrupted second set (4-6) to the Czech pair, who will face Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-wei and Cao Chia-yi in the quarterfinals.
This marks the end of the Olympics for Pegula, but Gauff will remain in mixed doubles with Taylor Fritz.
Pegula, the fifth seed, was eliminated in the second round of singles, losing in three sets 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 to Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina, who won the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
Gauff made headlines on Tuesday after she got into an argument with the chair umpire during her third-round singles match against Croatia’s Donna Vekic, which she lost 7-6 (9-7), 6-2.
The 20-year-old, who competed as the second seed in the women’s singles at the Paris Olympics, was left in tears during the match after a controversial decision.

“That’s happened a lot this year. I always felt like I had to make a statement on the court,” Gauff said after Tuesday’s loss.
Last month, the reigning US Open singles champion challenged the decision in her loss to Iga Swiatek in the French Open semi-finals.
“I think in tennis, these points are so important that we should have a VAR system,” Gauff said. “Usually you apologize after the match, and it’s a bit frustrating when an apology after the match doesn’t help.”
After an emotional morning as the women’s flag bearer for Team USA, she and doubles partner Fritz were eliminated in the third round of men’s singles on Wednesday by Lorenzo Musetti, but beat Argentina’s Nadia Podolska and Maximo Gonzalez in the first round of mixed doubles on Tuesday.
