The Yankees acquired former National League MVP Cody Bellinger in a trade with the Cubs on Tuesday night, adding the 29-year-old to the team's all-time exclusive list in the process.
Bellinger becomes the fourth father-son duo to wear pinstripes.
His father, Clay Bellinger, played in the Bronx from 1999 to 2001 and won two World Series championships, including defeating crosstown rival Mets in the first Subway Series World Series since 1956. I accomplished it.
The younger Bellinger joined the Yankees with two years left on his contract after the 2024 season in which he batted .266/.325/.426 with 18 home runs.
Clay appeared in 343 at-bats with the Yankees, hitting .194 with 12 home runs and 35 RBIs.
He appeared in all three of the Yankees' playoff games during his tenure, with perhaps his most memorable moment being Game 2 of the 2000 Fall Classic.
In the bottom of the ninth inning of that game against the Mets, he caught a long fly ball from Mets first baseman Todd Zeile against the wall, eliminating a potential home run.
Here's a look back at other father-son duos who played for the Yankees.
Yogi Berra (1946-63) and Dale Berra (1985-86)
Yogi Berra holds a special place in Yankee lore, playing for 18 years and winning 10 World Series, plus two more as a coach.
He was also selected as an All-Star 15 times and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972.
Dale Berra made his MLB debut in 1977 and ultimately played two seasons with the Bronx Bombers in 1985 and 1986.
Fittingly, Yogi served as Dale's manager for the first year.
Ron Davis (1978-81) and Ike Davis (2016)
Ron Davis began his major league career with the Yankees, playing with them from 1978 to 1981, and was named an AL All-Star in his final season.
He was traded to the Twins in April 1982, but set a franchise record for most consecutive strikeouts in a single game by striking out eight batters in a game against the Angels on May 4, 1981.
Ike Davis only played briefly with the Yankees after agreeing to a major league contract with the Yankees on June 12, 2016, appearing in just eight games in 2016.
He appeared in games against the Rockies and Twins, batting .214 with five strikeouts.
Mark Leiter (1990) & Mark Leiter Jr. (2024 onwards)
Mark Leiter appeared in eight major league games for the Yankees in 1990, after making his major league debut against the Rangers on July 4 of that year.
Reiter started three games for the Bombers, pitching 26 1/3 innings and posting a 1-1 record with a 6.84 ERA.
Mark Leiter Jr. had a chance to don a Yankees jersey after being traded to the Cubs at this year's trade deadline.
The young writer pitched 21 2/3 innings for the Yanks, striking out 33 batters and posting a 4.98 ERA.
In the playoffs, he pitched 5 1/3 innings and posted an ERA of 1.69.
