Colbert Celebrates Kimmel’s Show Return
Stephen Colbert, during a recent broadcast, expressed his joy over the return of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” following its suspension. He jokingly referred to himself as the “only late-night mart teacher,” particularly after Disney opted to bring Kimmel’s show back on air.
Colbert shared his delight, stating, “I’m very happy with them. Plus, I can enjoy this again now that Jimmy hasn’t been cancelled. I’m the only martian late at night.” His comments come after Kimmel’s show was pulled last Wednesday due to remarks regarding the Turning Point Assassin that stirred controversy and drew warnings from the FCC. Disney’s choice to pause the show was influenced by two major affiliates deciding to remove Kimmel’s broadcast, while Kimmel reportedly refused to apologize for his statements.
Kimmel had criticized the way some reacted to the alleged murder associated with a member of the MAGA movement, which incited backlash among conservatives. Nevertheless, the Walt Disney Company announced that the show was set to resume on Tuesday after a brief hiatus aimed at managing the situation’s tension.
“We decided to pause production… because some comments felt untimed and insensitive,” the company explained.
On his Monday show, Colbert took it a step further by hinting at potential announcements from CBS. He humorously nudged, “Wait. CBS, do you want to announce something? Um, is it okay? For the money, I forgot.” Meanwhile, his tenure on “The Late Show” is anticipated to wrap up in May 2026, with CBS claiming the decision was strictly financial, unrelated to the show’s performance or current events at Paramount.
Colbert had also voiced his criticism about Paramount’s response to a lawsuit from President Donald Trump regarding CBS News’ “60 Minutes.” He and others have suggested it seemed aimed at placating the administration ahead of a significant merger with Skydance, which received approval on July 24 and was finalized on August 7.
