Messi Enjoys Coldplay Concert Amid MLS Controversy
Inter Miami’s star player, Lionel Messi, along with his wife Antonela Roccuzzo, attended a Coldplay concert at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. They were captured by the kiss cam, and fortunately for them, there was no negative publicity this time around.
The couple was all smiles as they were showcased on the Jumbotron, enjoying the energy of the crowd. Coldplay’s lead singer, Chris Martin, even referred to Messi as “the number one sports person of all time.”
However, this appearance coincided with a growing controversy in Major League Soccer. Both Messi and his Inter Miami teammate, Jordi Alba, faced suspensions after opting out of the Major League All-Star Game. While Alba has been nursing previous injuries, Messi’s absence stems from a packed schedule that includes both U.S. and international commitments.
MLS commissioner Don Garber acknowledged Messi’s passion for the league, stating, “I don’t think there are any players or anyone who’s done more for Major League Soccer than Messi.” He also expressed respect for Messi’s dedication to Miami, though he noted that the league had to uphold its longstanding policy regarding All-Star participation.
On the other hand, Inter Miami owner David Beckham criticized this rule, describing it as “Draconian.” This policy states that players who skip the All-Star Game without league approval are ineligible for the next match.
In the latest match, Inter Miami and Cincinnati ended in a 0-0 tie. Overall, it appears Messi’s participation in the league continues to stir conversations, both in and out of the stadium.
