Colin Cowherd blasts Giants, compares them to Blockbuster

Colin Cowherd was right about the Giants, and it wasn’t hard to decipher his message when he likened the Giants to the nearly defunct video rental chain Blockbuster.

Big Blue is at a bit of a crossroads with Saquon Barkley potentially leaving in free agency and a lot of questions after an incredibly disappointing season in 2023.

This has caused concern among Giants fans, with a Fox Sports talk show host Thursday blaming the franchise on par with the Panthers’ dysfunction if the Giants lose Barkley.

“The bottom is [of the NFL confidence meter] If you don’t have Saquon Barkley, it has to be Carolina and the Giants,” Cowherd said.

The talking points in the sports world are quarterback Daniel Jones’ 8-14 record without the former No. 2 overall pick on the field and how well the Giants offense can score in those situations. He pointed out that he was struggling.

That’s when Cowherd was portrayed as an organization in trouble.

“When I look at Giants, when I went back to Giants eight or nine years ago, I felt like it was such a highly successful accounting firm,” he began. “It feels like a blockbuster video. They haven’t turned around. Upstairs isn’t very good. Twelve seasons since the Super Bowl – it’s been such a long time of great seasons that it’s hard to understand this.… In the 12 seasons since winning the Super Bowl, there has been one double-digit win season, but that was in a weak NFC.

Cowherd continued to point out how teams like the Texans and Lions turned the corner and became successful franchises, which highlighted how bad things have gotten for the Giants.

Not only do the Giants have to deal with the impending loss of Barkley, but there are also rumors of “buyer’s remorse” over the four-year extension they signed him to last year, something Cowherd also noted.

“You have an owner who wants a QB that the general manager and the coach, frankly, personally don’t want,” Cowherd said.

The talk host speculated that “the situation is bad” for the Giants right now.

There are a number of places Berkeley could end up, including divisional rival Philadelphia.

The door isn’t completely closed for Barkley to return to the Giants, but it seems increasingly unlikely.
