Colin Cowherd Interviews Sophie Cunningham

Colin Cowherd’s interview with WNBA star Sophie Cunningham took an unexpected turn, catching her off guard.

Cunningham has been in the spotlight regarding the discussion on transgender athletes in women’s sports. She recently expressed her belief that biological men should not participate in women’s sports, while clarifying that she does not harbor any hatred towards transgender individuals.

On “The Colin Cowherd Podcast,” which aired on Friday, she talked about her podcast rebranding. The show transitioned from “Show Me Something” to “No Hesitation” under Cowherd’s network.

This change included a new co-host; Cunningham switched from her childhood friend Will West, known for “Summer House,” to basketball trainer Drew Hanlen. The goal seems to be focusing more on basketball-related content.

During their discussions, West openly disagreed with Cunningham’s views on transgender athletes, which led her to dismiss the notion that this caused the co-host switch as “dumb.”

With so much happening in her life, Cowherd veered the conversation in a way that was surprising for Cunningham.

Sophie Cunningham’s reaction was one for the books. Cowherd called her the WNBA’s “sex symbol,” and it was pure comedy. Her confidence and quick wit shone through as she responded, indicating she knew how to take control of the moment.

“You’re kind of viewed a little bit as the league’s … ummm,” Cowherd hesitated, trying to find the right words.

Cunningham, without missing a beat, encouraged him, saying, “Just say it. I don’t care.”

“Sex symbol,” he declared, inquiring if she found that to be an accurate description.

“That is way better,” Cunningham replied, clearly relieved. “I thought you were gonna go somewhere completely different.”

Cowherd went on to compliment her for being tough and standing up to opponents, mentioning how she often protects Indiana teammate Caitlin Clark. Moreover, he noted her stylish appearance when entering arenas.

“You’re tough. You’ll fight anybody. You’ll taunt anybody,” Cowherd remarked. “But you’ll make sure, coming into the arena, ‘I look good, and I want you to know…’”

Though many WNBA players embrace style, Cunningham has particularly drawn attention for her stance on transgender athletes, receiving both support and criticism.

She was featured in this year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue and even played the role of a ring girl during UFC 329 for Conor McGregor’s comeback fight.

Taking his compliment in stride, Cunningham stated, “For some reason, our society thinks if you play basketball, you can’t dress that way, or you can’t be girly.” She further stated, “No one’s ever said it, but it’s like they kind of feel that you can’t be both. Screw all that. Yes, you can. You can be girly, and you can go out and kick someone’s ass.”
