Kaepernick’s Views on Race and Upbringing Spark Debate

Colin Kaepernick has expressed concerns that his adoptive white parents were not able to adequately prepare him for the realities of being Black in America. However, BlazeTV host Jason Whitlock argues that it is precisely those parents who helped Kaepernick achieve his success.

During an appearance on “The Karen Hunter show,” Kaepernick discussed his identity. When asked how he feels about the term “biracial” and its connection to his Black identity, he stated, “I identify as a Black man.” He elaborated on how he perceives himself in the world and mentioned that his parents recognized his Black heritage from a young age.

Despite this, Kaepernick reflected on his parents’ approach, which he described as one of color blindness. He noted, “They operated within a sense of color blindness… but that’s not how the world is going to operate or treat me when I walk outside these doors.” He suggested that his parents’ understanding of race was influenced largely by what they saw in the media.

Whitlock criticized Kaepernick’s viewpoint, pointing out that statistically, children raised in Black families often fare worse than Kaepernick did. He questioned whether Kaepernick sees how well Black families prepare their children for success, referencing data on SAT scores and graduation rates.

He acknowledged that Kaepernick’s parents treated him as their own, wanting him to be colorblind, which seemingly contributed to his achievements in college and the NFL during the early years. “It almost feels like what they did worked,” Whitlock remarked.

However, Whitlock also suggested that Kaepernick’s recent focus on his racial identity has led to a downturn in his career. “Once Colin Kaepernick became obsessed with his Blackness, that’s when all the trouble started,” he explained, implying that this shift negatively affected Kaepernick’s trajectory.

“This guy’s clueless,” Whitlock concluded, reflecting on Kaepernick’s controversial perspective.
