Colin Kaepernick’s Potential NFL Return Sparks Discussion

Colin Kaepernick hasn’t played in the NFL since 2016, but there’s still a buzz among fans about a possible return to football. It’s interesting, really, how some supporters are still rallying for him despite nearly a decade away from the game.

In another football-related update, Philip Rivers is reportedly planning to work out with the Indianapolis Colts. This comes as all three quarterbacks in the AFC South are currently injured, which is clearly a significant situation for the team. Rivers, who played for the Colts before retiring in 2020, recently turned 44 and welcomed his first grandchild.

Back to Kaepernick, many NFL fans took to social media, suggesting that the Colts might want to consider him, even after so long. His girlfriend, Nessa Diab, mentioned just a few months ago that he is still holding onto the hope of getting another shot in the NFL. “All day, every day,” she stated, emphasizing that his desire to play remains unchanged.

Kaepernick last played during the 2016 season, where he became notable for kneeling during the national anthem as a form of protest against racial injustice. In his final game against the Seattle Seahawks, he managed to complete 17 passes for 215 yards, scoring one touchdown. Since then, it seems teams haven’t been sufficiently interested in bringing him back, not even for training camps.

While this situation unfolds, Kaepernick has also been active outside of football. He developed a social activism platform with initiatives like Know Your Rights Camp and Kaepernick Publishing. His views have, perhaps controversially, compared the NFL Draft to a slave auction and advocated for major reforms in law enforcement and social justice within the league.

Last year, he admitted missing football and continues to train, awaiting a call from a team. “I’m committed to ensuring I’ve done everything I can to pursue it,” he expressed, conveying a sense of determination in not allowing his work ethic to be the reason for any missed opportunities.

When speaking to Sky Sports, he expressed confidence in his abilities, suggesting that he still has what it takes to lead a team to the Super Bowl. “We’re still training and pushing,” he remarked, highlighting his ongoing commitment to the sport.

It’s a complicated situation, and whether or not Kaepernick will find a spot on a team again remains to be seen. But his passion for the game and his continual training indicate he isn’t giving up anytime soon.
