Bestselling Author Colleen Hoover Shares Health Struggles
Colleen Hoover, known for her bestselling books like “It Ends With Us” and “Verity,” opened up about her health challenges on social media. On Monday, she posted an Instagram Story from the hospital, wearing a gown and mentioning it was her second-to-last day of radiation therapy.
In her post, she expressed gratitude towards Texas Oncology, saying, “I wish I could blame them for my hair and look, but they were amazing. I hope you don’t need it, but I highly recommend it.” Although she did not disclose the specific type of cancer, she shared that she had been quietly facing her diagnosis for several months.
Hoover first mentioned her health condition back in December on a private Facebook fan page. This news later spread to a wider audience. In that post, she reflected on how she had delayed addressing ongoing health issues while working on the film adaptation of her novel “Reminder of Him.” It wasn’t until she returned from filming in Canada that she sought medical help and received her diagnosis.
In October, she had announced on Instagram that she would miss some promotional events for the film adaptation of her work “Regretting You,” noting that she required an “inevitable surgery” preventing her from traveling.
Meanwhile, the adaptation of her popular novel “It Ends With Us” is under scrutiny, particularly after Blake Lively filed a lawsuit against co-star and director Justin Baldoni, citing sexual harassment and retaliation.
Lively filed her complaint on December 21, claiming that during filming, she experienced harassment from Baldoni. She alleged that after voicing her concerns, a retaliatory campaign against her began, which she felt damaged her career. This complaint was originally filed with the California Department of Civil Rights and was later taken to federal court.
Hoover served as an executive producer on “It Ends With Us” and reported being mostly uninvolved, stating, “I had no idea anything was going on.” She referred to the ongoing situation as sad and overwhelming, noting the effect it has on the actors involved. She called it, “a circus” and expressed concern over the impact on people’s careers and emotions.
