Texas Mother Charged with Capital Murder After Shooting Sons

A 42-year-old woman from Texas, Colleen Nichole Lemmon, is facing capital murder charges following the fatal shooting of her two sons, according to authorities.

The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office reported that they were alerted to an “unknown emergency” just before 4:15 a.m. Thursday at a home on Big Sky Drive in Waxahachie.

When deputies arrived, they found two boys with gunshot wounds. Christopher Scott Pitre, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene, while his 15-year-old brother was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but later died there.

Authorities indicated that Lemmon was also discovered with non-life-threatening injuries. Evidence gathered during the investigation led to probable cause for believing she was responsible for the shootings.

According to an arrest affidavit, deputies found Lemmon with apparent self-inflicted wounds on her wrists and a gun in the vicinity. It’s reported that she confessed to officers, stating, “I shot both my kids.”

After her arrest, Lemmon was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The boys’ father, Scott Pitre, shared his grief with local news, noting that his younger son had recently celebrated his 15th birthday and expressing a desire for justice.

The neighborhood was shaken by the tragic events. Ida Brown, a neighbor, described the situation as “heartbreaking” and expressed her sorrow, saying she was praying for the family.

In a statement, Sheriff Brad Norman extended his sympathies to the victims’ family, emphasizing that they will be in his thoughts during this difficult time.

Lemmon is being held on a bond set at $2.5 million.
