College athlete dies from tragic accident on ski resort’s most difficult trail

A 19-year-old college student died Tuesday in a skiing accident in Massachusetts.

Alex Kemp, a Williams College freshman from New Jersey, was skiing at Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in Hancock, Massachusetts, when the incident occurred on Monday, the Berkshire County District Attorney's Office said in a press release. Announced.

Authorities received a 911 call Monday at 2:39 p.m. about an accident on the left side of Cutter Trail.

“The caller indicated that Mr. Kemp appeared to have gone over an embankment and sustained significant head trauma,” the statement said.

Ski patrol was immediately on the scene, and emergency personnel worked to free Kemp. He was taken to Berkshire Medical Center and later transferred to Baystate Medical Center for further treatment, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries Tuesday.

The District Attorney's Office said Kemp was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, adding: “There is no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident.”

“Alex was one of the strongest students I have ever taught in my 21 years at the university,” Dukes Love, an economics professor who taught Kemp, said in a statement.

In high school, Kemp regularly volunteered, helping teach children with disabilities how to ride adaptive bikes as a step toward independence at a camp.
