College football: Ole Miss player claims Lane Kiffin is taking the spotlight away from them

Kiffin’s Departure Sparks Frustration Among Ole Miss Players

Lane Kiffin has been stirring up conversations lately, especially after he unexpectedly left Ole Miss to join LSU. It seems his former players are less than pleased about this decision.

Reportedly, Kiffin thought about attending Ole Miss’ surprising victory over Georgia but ultimately opted for the LSU women’s basketball game instead. Defensive tackle Zazavian Harris, clearly upset, accused Kiffin of attempting to “steal our shine.” He said, “He just tried to steal our shine. That’s all he’s trying to do,” expressing a sense of betrayal.

Harris described Kiffin’s exit as “a slap in the face” for a team that had just achieved a record number of wins in a season. “It’s like a slap and a backhand,” he remarked, hinting at some form of retaliation, adding, “He was going to troll. We’re going to troll him. We’ve got something on him.”

Interestingly, Harris himself performed exceptionally well, achieving a career-high of 10 tackles in the game against Georgia, which they won 39-34.

Complicating the situation further, several Ole Miss coaches are set to follow Kiffin to LSU after the season wraps up. This transition is particularly tricky as the transfer portal opens soon. These coaches now juggle the responsibilities of leading Ole Miss while simultaneously recruiting for LSU.

Notably, offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr., tight ends coach Joe Cox, wide receivers coach George McDonald, and running backs coach Kevin Smith have already signed on with Kiffin for his new team.

According to reports, it appears some of these coaching figures might not remain with Ole Miss despite their recent success in making it to the College Football Playoff semifinals.

Kiffin, for his part, stated, “Everything has been very clear and transparent…including our plans for the entire duration of this historic championship.” He also acknowledged that it was “a great night for all Ole Miss players, coaches, and fans.”

Looking ahead, Ole Miss is set to continue its season with a game against Miami in the Fiesta Bowl on January 8th at 7:30 PM ET.
