College football pick before Week 0

We’re nearly a month away from Week 0 of the college football season, which means it’s time to start beefing up your betting account with futures investments and tickets.

This is where I’d like to take some shots and hope that by mid-season they’re in or close to championship contender status.

Chris Sale has 70/1 odds on winning the National League Cy Young Award this MLB season. Sale is currently the favorite to win with odds of +120 at BetMGM.

Projecting preseason awards from a betting standpoint can be a tedious study involving playing time, usage, health assumptions and game planning.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it fails.

But by any long shot, you should be able to more than make up for any losses.

Predicted 2024-25 Heisman Trophy winner

There are a few possible routes to take here, but first, I’m assuming the odds are in favor of a quarterback since all of the top 10 picks are playmakers expected to win a national title.

Colorado two-way superstar Travis Hunter is listed at 22/1 odds at Caesars, the shortest odds of any non-quarterback.

The odds are completely insane, but after looking it up, BetRivers gives him 60/1 chances of winning the prize, which are a bit more reasonable odds.

Hunter needs to follow in the footsteps of Champ Bailey, Georgia’s 1999 Heisman Trophy winner, by playing both ends of the floor and dominating the defense as both a shutdown corner and an offensive and defensive playmaker.

Odds of 60/1 probably aren’t good enough to beat a team around .500, but 100/1 might be worth it. For reference, the odds of winning last season were 250/1.

One player I would like to acquire is Will Howard, the transfer from Kansas State. He is 6’4 with incredible speed and a strong arm that Ohio State could take advantage of.

Howard had a top receiver, Emeka Egbuka, to throw passes to, and the Buckeyes’ offense always favored the quarterback’s statistics.

Howard has the best odds at 16/1 on ESPN BET, making him a great bet heading into the college football regular season.

Prediction: Will Howard wins the Heisman (16/1, ESPN Betting)
