Dylan Sebock, a defensive end for Southeastern Oklahoma State University, tragically lost his life in a rollover accident early Thursday in Texas. The incident involved his teammate, linebacker De’Taurean Johnson, who has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.
According to Sebock’s family, he was just 23 years old when the crash occurred. Police in Sherman, Texas, responded to multiple reports of a one-vehicle accident shortly before 1 a.m. They found both occupants had been ejected from the vehicle, with Sebock discovered approximately 15 feet from the service road on U.S. Highway 75. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
After the accident, Johnson was found on the road but fled on foot when the first officer arrived. He was later apprehended and is currently being held in the Grayson County Jail following his treatment at a local hospital.
The investigation, led by Sherman’s Critical Accident Investigation Team, found evidence supporting that Johnson was under the influence when driving.
Southeastern Oklahoma State University released a statement regarding the tragic incident.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm that one student has died as a result of the accident. The other student was hospitalized. Our thoughts are with their families and friends during this difficult time. We’re offering support resources to those affected by this loss. More information will follow when available,” the statement read.
The Sebock family also shared their sorrow, stating, “There is a hole in our family that can never be filled. No parent should ever have to bury their child. It’s devastating to learn that someone we love isn’t coming home because another person chose to drink and drive.”
