William Hardrick, a defensive back who once played for Mississippi State and Miami (Ohio), tragically passed away at just 22 years old. His death was announced by Austin Peay University on Wednesday.
Hardrick’s life was cut short in a car accident in Alabama, as confirmed by Limestone County Coroner Mike West. The incident occurred near Interstate 65. A man named John Walter McAdams has been arrested in connection with the crash and faces charges including murder.
McAdams was reportedly driving a semi-trailer when the accident happened.
Austin Peay’s Athletics Director, Gerald Harrison, expressed deep sorrow over Hardrick’s passing. He highlighted the university’s commitment to support Hardrick’s family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time. Head coach Jeff Faris also remembered Hardrick as an exceptional young man, noting that the team felt a profound loss and recognized the positive impact he made both on and off the field.
Before joining Mississippi State, Hardrick played at a high school in Adamsville, Alabama, and had previously contributed to Miami’s football program. Over his time at Miami, he participated in 18 games and recorded 32 tackles.
