College football playoff player props, picks, odds

Will Howard hasn't been playing as well as Ohio State Buckeye fans had hoped for lately.

The senior quarterback is coming off his worst game of the year heading into Saturday's first-round College Football Playoff game against Tennessee.

Howard was picked off twice during the Buckeyes' 13-10 loss in Columbus, ending any hopes of a return to the Big Ten title game.

During the game, Howard completed just 56.7 percent of his passes (19-of-33), his lowest completion percentage of the season.

He threw just 176 yards, which was also the lowest of the season.

And he hasn't been particularly fiery lately.

A week ago against Indiana, Howard threw for just 201 yards, including an interception.

Previously, Howard had decent numbers at Northwestern and Purdue (not the best defense in college football), throwing for 253.5 yards per game over that span.

But against Penn State, a powerhouse in pass defense, Howard threw for just 182 yards and completed two-thirds of his passes.

All of this leads into Saturday's game against Volante, who has perhaps the best defense he's ever faced.

This season, Tennessee allowed just 278.3 total yards per game, the fourth-fewest in the nation, and allowed 178.7 passing yards, the 17th-fewest in the nation.

Still, oddsmakers project Howard to have one of his best games of the year through the air, posting an over/under of 241.5 passing yards.

Howard has struggled to reach those numbers lately, going over just three of his past eight games, including the aforementioned soft defenses at Purdue and Northwestern.

Play: Will Howard gained less than 241.5 passing yards (-120, Caesars Sportsbook)
