The College Football Playoffs National Championship Trophy fell apart during a White House visit by the Ohio State Buckeyes Football Team on Monday as Vice President Vance tried to pick it up.
When President Trump took a photo with his team, Vance, an Ohio State graduate, walked to the table where the trophy was sitting and picked it up with the help of others. When he lifted the trophy, its black base separated from its metallic top.
“I didn’t want to get the trophy after Ohio, so I decided to break it,” Vance said in a post on Social Platform X. Incident.
Ohio State won 34-23 Notre Dame Fighting Irishman College Football Playoffs in January. The match between Notre Dame and Ohio State took place on the same day as President Trump’s inauguration this year.
Before the inauguration, Vance said in a post on X: “I hope everyone can skip the inauguration and go to the national title game.”
Vance said a few days later that he was joking in the post, “I will fulfill my constitutional duties and swear as the 50th Vice President of the United States.”
