College Student Faces Felony Charge After Alleged Stabbing On Campus: REPORT

A 20-year-old Appalachian State University student is facing felony charges for allegedly stabbing another student on campus Thursday, according to WXII 12.

Emmett Cardwell was arrested and charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to murder or cause serious bodily injury after a reported stabbing at Peacock Hall. according to To the outlet.

Cardwell is alleged to have “unlawfully, willfully and feloniously assaulted” the victim using a deadly weapon, a knife, with intent to kill and seriously injure the victim, court documents state. . according to to the Watauga Democratic Party.

Appalachian State Police arrived at the scene of the incident at approximately 12:07 p.m., WXII 12 reported. Police reportedly spotted a suspicious vehicle leaving campus and arrested two suspects at 12:30 p.m.

“Stabbling near Peacock Hole. Suspect left the scene in a black Toyota convertible. Please avoid the area,” a message sent to the area read.

Authorities questioned a second suspect, who is reportedly another student at the university. No charges have yet been filed against this person, WXII 12 reported.

According to court documents cited by the outlet, Caldwell “will be released to his parents after posting a $250,000 bond.” The suspected attacker, from Durham, was reportedly ordered to live with his parents and check in with court weekly to ensure compliance, the Watauga Democrat reported.

Court documents state that Caldwell is prohibited from entering Watauga County “along with his attorney and without prior notice to the sheriff’s office,” the report said. Suspects are not allowed to possess firearms or other dangerous weapons during this period of pretrial release. His court date is scheduled for May 23.
