A desperate search is underway for a Michigan college student who vanished after appearing “disoriented” while leaving a bar during a snowy weekend, officials reported.
Trenton Massey, a student at Northern Michigan University, was captured on surveillance footage looking “disoriented and having difficulty walking” at a local market just before 3:20 a.m. Sunday, according to police.
The temperature at the time was around 20 degrees, and the region had experienced continuous snowfall for several days, said Marquette Police Department Chief of Detectives Christopher Aldrich. He mentioned that alcohol consumption might have contributed to Massey’s state, alongside the cold weather.
“We’re still actively searching for him,” a police representative informed the news.
Many, including fellow NMU student Ryder Amesbury, joined the search efforts for Massey. Amesbury had met him at the bar before he woke up to find his friend reported missing.
“It’s alarming,” Amesbury shared. “There was a severe blizzard that night. I got lost on my way home, so it’s frightening to hear this. But it’s heartening to see so many people come together to help look for him.”
Massey was last seen wearing an olive green and black jacket along with dark pants. Authorities are asking residents and businesses in red-shaded areas of the provided maps to review their CCTV footage from 3:25 a.m. Sunday for any indications of Massey. They are also urging locals to thoroughly check their properties, including vehicles, for any sign of the missing student.
