Collin Morikawa posts 2 hilarious lessons from his Masters meltdown

Collin Morikawa competed in Sunday’s final round of the 88th Masters Tournament in the final pair. He was one stroke behind world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.

Early in his round, it looked like there would be fireworks going off on the back nine. However, several ill-timed double bogeys almost ended Morikawa’s chances of winning his first green jacket.

After his round, Morikawa frankly said on Sunday that “greed” had cost him.

However, after several hours of contemplation, the two-time major champion adopted a lighter approach. Social media in the process.

“There are a few things I learned from this week.

1. Don’t hit the water on the 11th

2. I hope my tee flips get better so I can always come in second place,” Morikawa wrote in X.

He mentioned one of the aforementioned double bogeys. Morikawa was very aggressive in aiming for the pin on the difficult par-4 11th hole. The pin was on the far left of the bunkered cover, with a lake next to it, so the obvious play was safely tucked to the right side of the green, likely a two-putt for par.

However, a double bogey two holes in advance dropped him to three strokes behind the leader. Morikawa must have felt the pressure and took on the challenge.

His other response was very lighthearted.

On the 13th hole, it was unclear who was furthest from the hole. So Morikawa flipped the tee in the air to see which direction it would land. It pointed at him, and he was forced to play first.

However, both players continued to make birdies.

It was nice to see the brighter side of Morikawa, who is usually serious. It’s clear he has the talent to compete for a major championship. He is also confident, as evidenced by his comment that he is “not scared” heading into Sunday’s final round.

All that’s left is to close the deal.
