Bogota: A Tragic Incident Involving a Young Influencer
A 22-year-old social media influencer, Maria Joséestu Pinan Sanchez, was tragically shot outside her home in Kakuta, Colombia, earlier this week. Reports indicate that she was at a residence in the La Riviera area when a man, masquerading as a delivery person, approached her with a fake package and shot her at close range.
Neighborhood security cameras captured the suspect fleeing the scene immediately after the shooting, while Sanchez’s screams for help echoed in the background.
Shortly after the incident, she was rushed to the hospital but, unfortunately, succumbed to her injuries. Police reported that the shooting happened around 1 PM local time. “She was killed by someone who pretended to deliver a package,” said Colonel Leonardo Capacho from the Metropolitan Police in Cukuta.
This violent act occurred just a day after Sanchez had reportedly secured a court ruling in a domestic violence case against her ex-boyfriend, with the court ordering him to pay about 30 million pesos (approximately $7,000). Authorities from Canal Tro mentioned that her ex-boyfriend is now a primary suspect, as they suspect her recent legal victory may be linked to her murder.
As of now, no arrests have been made. Police are actively searching for a main suspect seen on security footage wearing a black hat, a jacket, jeans, and carrying a backpack.
Maria José was a seventh-semester student of social communication at Pamplona University. She often shared posts about her life as a social media model and a student, gathering a considerable following in the process.
This incident follows closely behind the murder of another Mexican influencer, Valeria Marquez, who was fatally shot during a live stream. There have been increasing concerns about influencers becoming targets for similar attacks where assailants pose as delivery personnel.
