BOULDER, Colo. — After tying the game in regulation, Joshua Carty connected on a 31-yard field goal in the second overtime, Eric Ayomanor had a school-record 294 yards receiving, and Stanford They rallied from a 29-point deficit to a 46-point lead at halftime. They picked up their 43rd win over Colorado earlier Saturday.
This was the largest lead jump in Colorado history.
Safety Alakai Gilman picked off a floated pass from Shedur Sanders in the end zone, setting the stage for Carty, who ran the ball 46 yards with time remaining in regulation.
The Cardinal (2-4, 1-3 Pac-12) trailed 29-0 at halftime as quarterbacks Justin Lamson and Ashton Daniels couldn’t find the spark.
That was until the second half, when Daniels led Stanford with eight straight points, along with contributions from Lamson. The Cardinal gained 408 of their 523 yards in the second half and OT.
Daniels threw for 396 yards and four TDs. Ayomanor had 13 catches and three TDs, including one to tie the game in the first overtime and another for a game-changing 97-yard gain.
His 294 yards receiving broke the record previously held by Troy Walters (278 yards) against UCLA in 1999.
Colorado committed 17 penalties and gained 127 yards in the game, which started at 8:20 p.m. Eastern, and ended at nearly 12:15 a.m. local time.
Sanders passed for 400 yards and five touchdowns, leading the team in rushing with 37 yards. The Buffaloes (4-3, 1-3) built him a 29-0 lead and were in the game early. I saw it on Friday the 13th.
That wasn’t the case.
Two-way standout Travis Hunter returned after missing three games after taking a late hit against Colorado State that sent him to the hospital with a lacerated liver.
He had 13 catches for 140 yards and two scores.
He also had five tackles.
