Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado said he doesn’t believe President Joe Biden can win the November election, calling him “deeply concerned” about the party’s current trajectory toward taking the White House.
“I think Donald Trump is on track to win this election, probably in a landslide victory and take control of the Senate and the House of Representatives,” Bennet told CNN in an interview Tuesday night.
Bennet confirmed an earlier CNN report that he was one of three Democrats who expressed doubts about Biden’s chances of winning during a caucus call early Tuesday.
“It’s true that I said that, and I said that behind closed doors,” Bennett said in an interview.[CNN] And other people asked me if I said yes, and I said yes.”
The other two senators are reportedly Jon Tester of Montana and Sherrod Brown of Ohio.
“This race is on a very worrying trajectory when it comes to the future of our country,” said Bennet, who ran for president in 2020. “Joe Biden was leading by nine points at this point in the last campaign. Hillary Clinton was leading by five points. This is the first time in more than 20 years that a Republican president has had a lead at this stage in the campaign.”

Bennet, in an interview, did not call for Biden to resign, saying, “This is an issue that the president should seriously consider, and I think that those of us who hold elected office have a moral obligation to the people that we represent and to the future of our country … to do everything we can to make sure that their future is as bright as possible.”
Biden’s campaign is dealing with the fallout from what was widely seen as the president’s poor performance in last month’s debate with Trump, and Biden has said he will continue to campaign despite growing doubts within his party, The Center Square previously reported.
A new poll released Tuesday from Emerson College puts Trump at 46% approval, Biden at 43%, and 11% of voters undecided.
