Colorado Democrats Force Through Abortion and Transgender Bills in Hasty Sunday Session!

The Colorado Democratic majority advanced a contentious series of gender and abortion-related bills on Sunday, limiting debate on the floor, which Republican lawmakers described as “unprecedented” maneuvers.

“We must stay alert for all Americans during the days typically set aside for family and prayer,” Pugliese stated, noting how the Colorado majority used Sunday for legislative action.

Pugliese mentioned that “weekend work” is “a strategy employed by the majority to penalize minorities,” deeming it “unprecedented,” particularly given the bill’s significance.

“There was no filibuster or delays. It’s a significant move to conclude discussions on legislation that impacts parental rights, public safety, and taxpayer usage,” she noted.

The passed bills include SB25-183, which mandates taxpayer funding for abortion services; HB25-1309, which requires insurance companies to cover transgender procedures irrespective of age; HB25-1312, imposing state-mandated gender policies in schools, while assessing “forced control” in custody disputes where parents do not acknowledge their child’s gender identity; and SB25-129, which bans cooperation with out-of-state inquiries regarding transgender procedures and abortion services.

Monica Duran, the majority Democratic leader in the state capitol, stated that four bills had been debated for over 12 hours last week.

“At that time, the minority presented numerous corrections,” Duran informed Fox News Digital. “Ultimately, Coloradans fulfilled their responsibilities by electing a pivotal Democrat. The session demands that everyone performs their duties daily, within just 120 days.”

“This included yesterday’s approval of legislation aimed at safeguarding abortion rights and executing amendment 79, which voters accepted with nearly 62% last November.”

Other Democratic legislators involved in drafting the passed bills view them as protective measures against the rollback of Trump administration policies.

“Now is the time to stand against external interference and Trump administration attempts to restrict abortion and healthcare for LGBTQ+ individuals in Colorado,” Rep. Karen McCormick of D-Longmont, the sponsor of SB25-129, stated.

“In light of the Trump administration’s drive to severely curtail abortion access, Coloradans assert that having access to necessary reproductive healthcare is a constitutional right,” stated Democrat Lorena Garcia, co-sponsor of SB5-183.

“This bill will broaden access to vital reproductive healthcare, including abortion services,” Garcia further commented.

The legislation is now advancing to the state Senate, which is governed by Democrats, for examination.
