A fire broke out early Wednesday morning after a curious dog sniffing a box placed on a stove in a Colorado Springs home accidentally ignited the burner.
According to the Colorado Springs Fire Department, the fire started in a stove just before 4:45 a.m. and quickly grew in size, setting off smoke detectors and a “high temperature” alarm on the family’s Apple HomePod.
The male homeowner was able to put out the fire before anyone was seriously injured.
Colorado Springs firefighters quickly arrived at the home to rescue the family and investigate the cause of the fire.
When they checked their home security camera footage from inside the kitchen, what they saw was shocking.
The family’s dog was seen jumping up on its hind legs to sniff the box, and seconds later flames erupted from the stove.
The puppy accidentally pressed the burner knob, causing the box to catch fire as soon as the dog left the kitchen. Announced by the fire department show.
“After speaking with the homeowner and reviewing security camera footage from the home, it was determined that the puppy, out of curiosity, accidentally turned on the oven and had several boxes placed on top of it,” Colorado Springs Fire Department officials said in a post.
Authorities said the homeowner who helped put out the fire suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital, but no other people or pets were injured.
However, the fire that broke out as a result of this unfortunate accident caused extensive damage to their house and they became homeless.
