Colorado man’s life saved by unlikely item

Police say a Colorado man was lucky to survive after a necklace he was wearing protected him from a bullet fired during an altercation.

The Commerce City Police Department shared a photo on social media showing a bullet lodged inside a chain link necklace.

“You could say he truly averted the crisis, but in reality he fired the bullet,” police said.

Police said the “only reason” the victim of the May 28 shooting is still alive is “likely to be a silver chain necklace, approximately 10mm wide.”

Colorado State Police are planning to use drones as first responders, calling the technology “the future of law enforcement.”

A .22 caliber bullet was reportedly fired during the altercation and would have struck the victim in the neck had it not been blocked by the necklace. The victim suffered stab wounds.

“We don’t know what kind of metal it is, but it’s most likely not pure silver,” police said. “I’ve looked into it and silver is apparently soft, so you might want to think twice before dropping it.”
