Colorado Paramedic Charged for Assisting More Than 100 Patients Without a License

Charges Against Paramedic for Practicing Without License

Lauren Wilson, 53, was indicted by a Colorado grand jury on Wednesday for providing medical care to over 100 patients without holding the necessary emergency medical license.

Wilson originally obtained her paramedic certification from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) in 2009. However, the certification lapsed in 2012 amid an investigation aimed at revoking her license due to undisclosed prior criminal history, according to the Colorado Attorney General’s Office (CAGO).

Since that time, Wilson reportedly continued to practice illegally. “In Colorado, it’s a crime to misrepresent yourself as a certified medical professional, and submitting false information to obtain state certification is illegal,” Attorney General Phil Weiser stated. He emphasized the state’s commitment to holding accountable those who engage in such harmful practices while also protecting victims and their healthcare.

CDPHE launched a new investigation into Wilson in 2022 after receiving reports of her treating over 100 patients without proper certification. During her work, she often served as the sole paramedic on an ambulance, frequently dealing with patients in critical condition. In some instances, it is claimed that she transported patients without their consent or against their will.

In 2022, Wilson reapplied for her emergency services license, but allegedly forged details regarding her date of birth and concealed criminal history in her application. CDPHE denied her application and issued a cease and desist letter instructing her to stop providing EMS services, as noted in her indictment documents.

Employed in health services in 2021 and 2022, Wilson reportedly misrepresented herself as a certified paramedic. Authorities claim she submitted documents with false dates of birth in an effort to hide her criminal background.

Documents indicated that she falsely claimed a birth date of November 8, 1971, while her documented criminal history was also listed under the name “Lauren Wilson.” Wilson has faced charges for falsifying government documents and attempting to engage in unlawful medical practices while misrepresenting her credentials. After posting a $50,000 bond, she was released from custody.
