Colorado Republican Lamborn won’t seek reelection

Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colo.) announced Friday morning that he will not run for re-election, making all three Republican-held seats in the state House of Representatives up for grabs in the upcoming November election.

Lamborn's district is a solidly Republican district that was not seen as competitive before his decision. Lamborn won re-election in 2022 with 57% of the vote.

Colorado itself is likely to be a battleground state for the House, with Democrats seeking to capture the 3rd District seat currently held by Rep. Lauren Boebert (R). She decided to leave the district to run for the seat being vacated by retiring Republican Rep. Ken Buck.

The state's 8th Congressional District, held by Democratic Rep. Yadira Carabeo, is also competitive, and is rated as underperforming by the Cook Political Report. The 3rd District, which Boebert vacated, is considered healthy for the Republican Party by Cook.

Lamborn, who is in his ninth term, announced his decision during an appearance on Richard Randall's show. Radio program.

“I'm not getting any younger,” Lamborn said. “I want to spend time with my children, grandchildren, and wife. I want to look for opportunities to do good.”

Lamborn, an attorney who first joined the House in 2007, was the longest-serving Republican in the state's delegation.
