Colorao illegal immigrant arrested after years of stalled deportation order

A famous immigration activist who had been hiding in Colorado Church for many years has been arrested to avoid deportation.

Janet Vizguera, the mother's target employee and advocate for immigration reform, was taken into custody in Aurora on Monday. Vizguerra was subject to a deportation order and had multiple stays that prevented her from being removed, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) said.

Despite the final deportation orders trace back to the Obama administration, some Democrats have argued that Vizguera has no legitimate procedure.

Johnston worked on his arrest on Tuesday.

“This is not immigration enforcement. It is Soviet-style political persecution of political opponents who pretend to be immigration enforcement,” he said. “This is not someone with a criminal history. It is the mother of a US citizen who works and targets it.”

“This doesn't make our community safer in my heart,” he added. “I think it makes our community out of law.”

Johnston was one of four sanctuary mayors who were grilled about each city by councillors earlier this month. Sanctuary Policy At a fiery hearing.

Retired Ice Field Office Director John Fabricatore said he was banned from deporting Vizguera during the Biden administration.

Vizguerra has a long history with immigration authorities. In 2009, she was subject to a Denver ice detention. That same year, she was convicted of possession of forged equipment for the second time and sentenced to 23 days in prison.

After being released on ICE in March 2009, she was convicted of not displaying her proof of insurance, ordered to drive without a license and pay a fine.

In 2011, a federal immigration judge refused to apply for relief from Vizguerra's immigration lawsuit, but granted a voluntary departure. She failed to depart the United States under the terms of the order in a 60-day window and instead filed an appeal to the Immigration Appeals Committee.

In September 2012, she voluntarily returned to her home country of Mexico. She was arrested for Ice in El Paso, Texas in 2013 and ordered to be deported.

She was eventually released for failing to meet the agency's priorities for removal under the policy of the time.

In 2019, Vizguerra skipped his appointment with immigration officers and called for sanctuary at Denver's first Unitarian Society Church.

She later moved in secret, secretly and a little further away to the first Baptist church, where she became the leader of the Sanctuary Movement.
