Colts aim to keep Daniel Jones past 2025 after strong beginning

Indiana Jones May Be Here to Stay

The Colts are reportedly interested in signing Daniel Jones, the former Giants quarterback who was their 2019 No. 6 pick, to a long-term deal after an impressive season so far with Indianapolis. The Colts have shown that they want to retain him beyond this season, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

It’s pretty understandable why they would want to keep Jones, especially considering his significant role in helping the Colts achieve a strong 6-1 start this year.

As of now, Jones ranks fifth in the league with 1,790 passing yards. He has thrown 10 touchdown passes while only throwing three interceptions during the first seven weeks of the season. Plus, he’s added four rushing touchdowns as they head into their Week 8 game against the Titans.

Remarkably, he’s completing a career-best 71% of his passes this season, supported by a talented roster that includes star running back Jonathan Taylor, rookie tight end Tyler Warren, and wide receivers Michael Pittman Jr. and Josh Downs.

Rapoport mentioned, “I know we’re only halfway through the season, but what they’re doing with Daniel Jones as the starting quarterback is pretty impressive.” Jones signed a one-year, $14 million contract with the Colts during the offseason, earning the starting position after outperforming Anthony Richardson in training camp.

Looking ahead, Spotrac estimates that Jones’ next contract could be for four years and around $192.63 million. This could complicate things for Richardson, the Colts’ No. 4 pick from 2023, who has faced several injuries, including a recent surgery for a fractured orbit suffered in Week 6.
