Colts' Daniel Jones shares insights from his time with the Vikings

Daniel Jones Reflects on Growth with Colts After Time with Vikings

Daniel Jones, the quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts, has had a varied career, including six seasons with the New York Giants. However, a brief stint with the Minnesota Vikings opened his eyes to a different level of preparation needed at the quarterback position.

At 28, Jones discussed how his approach to preparation has evolved since his time with the Giants and Vikings. “I always believed I was putting in the effort. I tried hard, thinking that studying film and understanding the game were vital. I thought I was doing pretty well,” he mentioned during a recent TV appearance.

He continued, “Then, I went to Minnesota and observed how Sam Darnold prepared, and how different coaches like Kevin O’Connell and Josh McCown detailed every aspect of the game plan daily. Their meticulous approach, quizzing each other, really left a mark on me. It felt like a next level of commitment.”

After being released by the Giants during Week 12 of the last season, Jones joined the Vikings in Week 13. Following his time there, he signed a one-year, $14 million deal with the Colts, aiming to compete for the starting QB position against Anthony Richardson. Jones ultimately secured the starting role and has found success.

Jones noted that his experience with the Vikings was “really valuable.” Since joining the Colts, he has quickly earned the nickname “Indiana Jones,” contributing to the team’s solid 4-1 record. In just five games, he has completed 71.3% of his passes for a total of 1,290 yards, along with six touchdowns and two interceptions. He has also rushed for 56 yards, including three touchdowns.

While he enjoyed some playoff success with the Giants, Jones has arguably played the best football of his career with the Colts.

Throughout his time with the Giants, Jones held a 28-45-1 record, completing 64.6% of his passes, totaling 15,872 yards with 76 touchdowns and 49 interceptions across 75 games.

Interestingly, Jones has never faced the Vikings in a game. The Colts will next host the Arizona Cardinals (2-3) on Sunday at 1:00 PM ET.
