Colts express regret for breaching Microsoft agreement and the insensitive portrayal of Tyreek Hill

The Indianapolis Colts faced criticism and subsequently scrubbed a social media video intended to unveil the team’s 2025 game schedule. The animated clip, influenced by the popular game Minecraft, started with a focus on the Colts’ single matchup against the Miami Dolphins, featuring the star player Tyreek Hill depicted humorously as a dolphin, being confronted by police. This portrayal didn’t sit well with many, especially since Hill was already in the spotlight due to a September arrest, where he was seen on body cam footage being detained by officers.

Following backlash, the Colts deleted the video, issuing a statement explaining that the content was inappropriate and violated their agreement with Microsoft. “We removed the schedule release video because we included an insensitive clip that goes beyond our rights with Microsoft and involves Tyreek Hill. We sincerely apologize to Microsoft and Tyreek,” they acknowledged in their Thursday statement.

Interestingly, the Los Angeles Chargers also released a Minecraft-themed schedule video, but they included a disclaimer from the start. Unlike the Colts’ animation, the Chargers’ video utilized actual gameplay footage from Minecraft, which may have kept them clear of controversy.

The NFL has been in partnership with Microsoft since 2013, initially signing a five-year deal worth $400 million. This collaboration allows teams and staff to leverage Microsoft Teams for various communication and organizational needs.
