Colts receive encouraging updates on Anthony Richardson's injury after concerns

The dislocation of a little finger looked quite alarming, but thankfully, the injuries were less severe than anticipated. This is a relief for a player who’s had his fair share of worries.

The Colts’ quarterback will be able to jump back into practice as early as Saturday. ESPN noted that, following an x-ray taken at halftime during the preseason opener against the Ravens, it was determined that he could resume activities soon.

Before Richardson was declared out, there was a bit of concern on the sidelines. It seemed like he managed to dodge a major setback, which is a positive sign for the team’s 4th overall draft pick in 2023.

The injury happened during the first quarter when Ravens linebacker David Ojabo approached from the left side, leading to a sack that resulted in Richardson’s finger getting hurt.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen commented on the situation after the game, according to ESPN.

There was no way Richardson was going to continue playing following the hit. At just 23, he’s involved in a competition for the starting role with Daniel Jones.

Richardson had started in the opener, while Jones is set to take the field for the Cowboys in their second preseason game on August 16. It remains uncertain whether Steichen will adjust his plans after Jones played in Thursday’s matchup and completed a 21-10 passing performance, contributing to the Colts’ 24-16 loss.

In his first two seasons, Richardson played 15 games, throwing for 21 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. However, he’s faced challenges including shoulder, back, foot, hip injuries, and concussions throughout his NFL career.

“I feel like I’m doing alright,” he mentioned, as noted by the Washington Post. “But everything happens for a reason. I’ve got my next game, so I’m not overly concerned.”

As for Jones, he was once a $160 million quarterback with the Giants but found new life after joining the Vikings practice squad in late 2024 and inking a $14 million deal with the Colts.
