Colts win against Broncos on a dramatic untimed down following a penalty call for leverage

Colts Achieve Thrilling Comeback Victory Over Broncos

The Indianapolis Colts kicked off the 2025 NFL season with an impressive 2-0 record, an achievement bolstered by some truly remarkable plays right at the end of their recent game.

During a tense moment, the Denver Broncos seemed poised for victory after Spencer Schludder’s 60-yard field goal attempt fell short and veered wide to the right. They held a 28-26 lead and celebrated what looked like a win, even without scoring in the fourth quarter.

But then, a penalty flag changed everything. The Broncos were penalized for leverage—a violation that prohibits players from using teammates to boost them while attempting to block a kick.

This penalty granted the Colts a new chance, despite the game clock having run out. After moving 15 yards closer, Schludder took his shot from 45 yards out. He nailed the kick, sending Lucas Oil Stadium into a frenzy as the Colts snatched a 29-28 victory.

The game wasn’t just about that final nail-biting moment, though. The Broncos made significant errors throughout. Notably, Kicker Will Lutz missed a 42-yard attempt earlier in the game when he could have extended their lead.

Broncos quarterback Bonicks completed 30 of 22 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns, but he also threw a critical interception in the fourth quarter, costing his team valuable points.

Meanwhile, Colts quarterback Daniel Jones continued his strong performance this season, completing 34 of 23 passes for 316 yards and a touchdown, along with another score from a quarterback sneak.

Jones’ stellar display was reminiscent of his Week 1 performance against the Dolphins, where he rushed for two touchdowns and contributed to a dominant 33-8 win.

In this game, tight end Tyler Warren was instrumental with 79 receiving yards on four catches, while Alec Pierce added 68 yards on four receptions. Running back Jonathan Taylor was pivotal too, racking up 165 rushing yards and catching two passes, one of which resulted in the touchdown thrown by Jones in the second quarter.

Looking ahead, the Colts are now gearing up for their first division matchup of the season against the Tennessee Titans in Week 3.
