Columbia Federalist mocks Charlie Kirk's assassination just hours after it occurred

Columbia University’s satirical newspaper, The Federalist, recently published an article regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk, founder of Roasting Point USA. The piece, which appeared shortly after his death, suggested an unexpected ideological shift within Turning Point USA, arguing that the Second Amendment might not hold the significance it once did.

The article stated that the organization’s leadership had met to reconsider its stance on gun control and individual freedoms, claiming this decision was made independently of recent events. The authors criticized both Turning Point USA and conservatives for their “bad politics,” adding a commentary on societal attitudes towards guns, including that “guns kill people” as a newly learned truth, disregarding the opinions of public health experts and grieving families.

Charlie Kirk, 31, was tragically shot in the neck during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University where he was addressing a crowd. Despite immediate medical attention, he was declared dead later that day. His death has sparked widespread grief and outrage across the nation. President Donald Trump described Kirk as a patriot of deep faith, insisting that the attempt to silence him ultimately failed, as his message would endure.

As of Thursday morning, the investigation into Kirk’s murder is ongoing, and the perpetrators remain unidentified. Kirk had been a strong advocate for the Second Amendment, often emphasizing its importance as a safeguard against governmental tyranny. Some critics, however, argued that his views contributed to a troubling acceptance of gun violence.
