Comedian claims she was excluded from her father’s funeral for rejecting an arranged marriage.

At just 14 years old, Zarna Garg made a pivotal choice that would shape her future. After rejecting an arranged marriage orchestrated by her father, she left her affluent family home in Mumbai, India, and eventually relocated to the United States, ensuring her father would no longer have a voice in her life.

During a recent discussion with Brian Kilmeade on Fox News, Garg spoke about her difficult estrangement from her father. She shared how, following her departure, she had moments of fun with friends, but it soon spiraled into two years of couch surfing as she tried to find her footing.

Garg recounted how when she first left, she thought it might just be a temporary arrangement. “I showed up at my friend’s house, and before long her mom suggested I should return home,” she remembered, realizing how dire her situation had become. She often faced the daily stress of not knowing where she would sleep that night, describing each day as a “new trauma.”

She reflected on how her experiences even influenced her comedy: “A lot of my humor comes from that time. The reason people opened their doors to me was because I made them laugh. I aimed to keep things light, to provide some joy during tough times,” she explained.

As time passed, her relationship with her father deteriorated further. Despite their estrangement, Garg noted that she understands her father’s perspective, acknowledging his initial intentions. “He thought he was doing what was best for me, coming from a place of love,” she said, pointing out that her siblings have had their own arranged marriages and seem relatively content.
