Comedian D. L. Hughley Stands Firm in Calling Charlie Kirk a 'Terrible Person' Following His Assassination

DL Hughley Defends Comments on Charlie Kirk After Assassination

Comedian DL Hughley, who spoke at the Democratic National Convention, stood by his description of conservative activist Charlie Kirk as a “terrifying human” following his assassination. In a conversation with journalist Nicholas Barasy, Hughley expressed that while he would never wish death upon anyone, he doesn’t have much respect for Kirk’s legacy.

“I’ve been very clear about this,” he stated. “A young man shouldn’t have lost his life. I can’t deny that what was said was hurtful to people who look like me. But I would never think someone should be killed for their words.” He added, “Yet, what he said was quite sad.”

Recently, Hughley also criticized Jimmy Kimmel after the late-night host seemed to mistakenly imply that the person responsible for Kirk’s death had ties to a particular ideology.

“I’ve always been a proponent of free speech,” Hughley noted. “I’ve defended people who, honestly, have offended me. But I do believe the First Amendment is sacred.”

He continued, addressing a common concern among some that they feel stifled in today’s culture, labeling it as a form of cancel culture that silences individuals rather than encourages open dialogue.
