Comedian and former Saturday Night Live star Jim Breuer expressed concerns about the “satanic” nature of the entertainment industry, sharing how his relationship with Jesus Christ helped him save his marriage.
During an appearance on the Interesting Work of God podcast, Breuer reflected on how faith transformed his life and brought stability to his marriage.
“My wife and I were really struggling in our marriage,” Breuer said during the interview.
“I parked near a small post office in Chester, New Jersey, and as I turned the corner to park, I thanked God, still in tears,” he continued.
He described a moment of doubt, telling God he believed he was a good person, despite his TV comedy career, and expressed his frustrations with God.
“If you exist, and I know you do – I really need you right now,” Breuer asked. “Please intervene and help save our marriage.”
Shortly after, he recounted how his wife’s perspective shifted when a woman encouraged her to pray about their marital issues. This moment sparked a change in his wife’s mindset.
“She prayed for me to discover goodness and for God’s love to flow through me,” he said, referencing his wife’s commitment to prayer.
Months later, he noted a significant transformation, saying, “There were no fights, no arguments. We communicated authentically, and our marriage was revitalized.”
Breuer expressed surprise at her newfound dedication to prayer, describing feelings of “overwhelming love” stemming from this experience. Following this, she joined him at church, helping to mend their relationship.
In another story, Breuer recounted a conversation with a young woman who admired his work and wanted to pursue a career in Los Angeles. He felt compelled to caution her.
“I wondered, if she moved to California, would she care about people like me? I felt like I was nobody,” he shared. “If she entered that environment and exposed herself so openly, the negative influences… they’d be lurking. She has to stay grounded.”
Breuer described their talk as lasting 45 minutes, aiming to prepare her for the pitfalls of Hollywood.
“I was very upfront with her,” he emphasized. “We discussed morals and told her stories about people I knew who fell victim to the industry’s excesses. She seemed genuinely surprised by my perspective.”
He advised her to be wary of those who might exploit her ambitions, asserting, “They’ll take advantage of you, so be careful.”
His advice apparently resonated, as a few months later, the young woman’s mother reached out to him, saying his words had encouraged her daughter to reconsider her Hollywood aspirations.
Breuer characterized the Hollywood environment as “demonic,” even likening it to a type of “possession.”
“It reveals a severe disconnect between morality and spiritual life, and that’s troubling,” he noted. “It’s almost like the devil’s work. Many aspiring entertainers are easily swayed by tempting offers.”
“Until you recognize the overwhelming desire to excel, that hunger, that ego, you’ll never grasp how easily one can be led astray,” he argued. “It feels close to possession.”
Breuer ultimately decided to distance himself from the Hollywood scene when he realized how destructively it affected him and others.
