House Committee Issues Subpoena to Former Biden Aide

The chair of the House Oversight Committee, James Comer from Kentucky, has taken steps against former President Joe Biden’s vice-chief of staff. On Friday, he issued a subpoena demanding testimony concerning Biden’s mental condition during his time in office.

Comer, who leads the committee focused on government oversight, has reached out to four key aides from Biden’s White House, including Annie Tomasini, the president’s former assistant and a deputy chief of staff.

Tomasini was initially asked to voluntarily appear before the committee on May 22, 2025, with appearances scheduled for July 18 or that Friday. However, her legal team is now pushing for a formal subpoena to ensure her attendance.

Investigations Into Biden’s Mental Health Continue

Comer explained his correspondence with Tomasini continued to outline why her testimony is crucial. He emphasized the committee’s role in understanding Biden’s mental fitness and whether Congress needs to reconsider certain legislative measures, such as those related to the 25th Amendment.

“Our committee has the authority to investigate any issue at any time, in line with House rules,” he noted. Additionally, he pointed out the procedural requirements for requesting testimonies and documents from witnesses.

Summons Issued to Another Biden Aide

Anthony Bernal, another former aide to Biden, has also been summoned after he declined to appear voluntarily. Both Walsh and Tanden have already undergone interviews with the committee members.

These ongoing efforts come in light of recent revelations from a book titled “The Original Sin,” which discusses Biden’s alleged attempts to cover up aspects of his mental decline as he prepared for reelection.

Interestingly, Comer has suggested that these “unelected bureaucrats” may have significantly influenced Biden’s presidency, perhaps even acting as a stand-in for the president himself.

The push for transparency and accountability regarding Biden’s administration and its inner workings is a significant part of the GOP’s ongoing agenda. This has led to broader inquiries about the decision-making processes that took place during his time in office.

As the investigations unfold, the committee appears keen to clarify who held the reins and made critical decisions throughout Biden’s presidency.
