Comey asserts his innocence following the indictment: ‘I’m not scared’

Comey professes innocence after indictment: 'I'm not afraid'

James Comey Responds to Indictment

Former FBI director James Comey expressed deep disappointment for the Justice Department following his indictment on two counts by the Trump administration’s Justice Department. Despite the charges, Comey has publicly maintained his innocence and stated he feels no fear regarding the situation.

In a brief video posted on Instagram, Comey reacted to the news of his indictment, sharing a personal insight: “My family and I understand there’s a price for standing up to Donald Trump over the years. But honestly, we couldn’t imagine living differently. We refuse to kneel.”

He recalled a recent conversation with a loved one, who noted that “fear is a tyrant’s tool,” a statement that resonated with him. He emphasized, “But I’m not afraid. I hope you aren’t either. I hope you’re more engaged and paying attention.”

Comey conveyed sadness for the Department of Justice but expressed confidence in the federal justice system. “I am innocent, so let’s proceed to a trial. Let’s keep our faith alive,” he added.

According to reports, a Federal Jury indicted Comey on charges related to making false statements aimed at obstructing Congress during his Senate testimony in 2020.

This indictment marks a significant moment, as it’s the first instance of charges against one of President Trump’s many political adversaries. Trump has long targeted Comey, particularly due to Comey’s investigation into potential Russian ties during the 2016 election, which Trump labeled a “witch hunt.” Recently, Trump seemed to pressure the Attorney General to take action against Comey and those he views as opponents.

After firing Comey in 2017, Trump continued to face scrutiny as the investigation led to the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller. The relationship between the two has remained contentious, with Trump labeling Comey a “dirty cop” among other insults.

Comey’s past decisions, particularly his handling of the email investigation involving then-candidate Hillary Clinton, drew heavy criticism from Democrats in 2016. Notably, he supported Clinton in the 2020 elections and has backed Vice President Harris for the upcoming 2024 race against Trump.

The indictment has sparked concern among Democrats and other critics of Trump, who view this move as an attempt to target the president’s opponents.
