Discussion on James Comey’s Indictment
During this week’s episode of Sunday Night In America on Fox News Channel, host Trey Gowdy addressed the indictment of former FBI director James Comey.
Gowdy suggested that Comey’s reaction revealed a belief that the rules didn’t apply to him.
Here’s a transcript of Gowdy’s comments:
Gowdy remarked on the Greek warnings about losing democracy, linking them to the narcissism of Comey’s character.
He emphasized that the former FBI director acted as if the rules were irrelevant, or worse, as if he could make them himself. According to Gowdy, Comey became overly absorbed in his own image. He noted that in 2016, Comey investigated both presidential candidates, but the parallels ended there.
He pointed out that Comey had drafted an exoneration memo for Hillary Clinton before her interview, and her legal team received questions in advance. Gowdy criticized Comey for violating DOJ protocols by announcing his decision not to charge Clinton, believing himself to possess unique moral authority.
Regarding Donald Trump, Gowdy claimed Comey didn’t favor him, initiating an investigation based on hearsay. He extended this inquiry with material from Clinton’s campaign and included Peter Strzok, who misinterpreted the FISA court and expressed biases against Trump supporters.
Despite Trump’s victory, Comey allegedly thought he knew better than the electorate, leading to damaging leaks and misinformation. Gowdy stated that Comey was charged because of these missteps.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX): As you know, McCabe has openly admitted to leaking information to The Wall Street Journal, a claim that you’ve acknowledged. This raises doubts about either McCabe’s statements or your committee testimony. Who is accurate?
James Comey, former FBI Director: I can only speak to my own testimony. What do I stand by?

Gowdy commented on the challenge of proving false statements, particularly with Andy McCabe as a potential witness. He mentioned that while Comey is presumed innocent, this principle was not applied to Donald Trump. Ultimately, a Virginia jury will determine Comey’s fate, but there are also broader judges like history and truth.
In conclusion, Gowdy reiterated that the power wielded by individuals like Jim Comey could lead to significant consequences for government integrity.
