Commander of the Royal Navy dismissed following sexual allegations.

A commander in the Royal Navy has been relieved of his duties just three months into an investigation regarding sexual misconduct allegations.

Lieutenant Commander Martyn Mayger was overseeing HMS Tyne, which operates in European waters, up until February. He was reportedly removed from his position last week along with the ship’s executive officer that he had temporarily replaced.

According to reports, the allegations pertain to “lower unacceptable sexual behavior.”

Mayger is currently under investigation by the Defence Serious Crime Command following the filing of the complaint.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence stated on Wednesday:

“It is not appropriate to comment further, as this is an ongoing investigation. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward criminal and inappropriate behavior. Our personnel will ensure any claims are reported and will receive full support throughout the process, including appropriate action and investigations.”

Last week, a Chief of the Royal Navy was also suspended amid an inquiry.

The MOD confirmed that the investigation involving the First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Benjamin Key, aged 59, is still “ongoing.” He was initially expected to retire this summer but has been asked to step back from his role during the investigation.

Key did not attend recent military celebrations for the 80th anniversary of VE Day. Vice Admiral Martin Connell, the Second Sea Lord, has been fully in charge since then until a permanent successor is appointed.

Notably, Admiral Key, who has been with the Navy for over 40 years, appears to be the first head of the Navy facing an investigation of this nature in its 500-year history.
