Commanders' Austin Ekeler reportedly done for the season due to Achilles injury

Washington Commander Loses Key Player for Season

Washington’s team will be missing one of Jaden Daniels’ top options for the remainder of the season. Austin Ekeler has suffered a torn Achilles during a recent loss to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Reports confirmed the diagnosis through an MRI.

Ekeler, who is 30, unfortunately went down without contact while running a route. It must have been a tough moment; he collapsed on the field and couldn’t put weight on his right foot, which led to him being carried off. It’s never easy to see a player go down like that.

This season, Ekeler had started in both games for the team, accumulating 43 yards from 14 carries and catching five passes for another 38 yards. A veteran with nine years in the NFL, he’s in his second year with Washington after spending seven seasons with the Chargers. Last season, he started six games and played in twelve.

Now, the team will need to rely on some younger talent, specifically rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Jeremy McNichols. Croskey-Merritt, 24, has logged 14 carries for 99 yards and scored in both of the Commanders’ first two games. Meanwhile, McNichols, who is 29, has had 4 carries totaling 25 yards in that same timeframe.

On a related note, the Commander’s defense will also feel the impact of an injury, as Dietrich Wise Jr. is out for the season following quadriceps surgery. He sustained the injury while attempting to block an extra point in the first half.

Looking ahead, Washington will aim to regroup after their loss to the Packers when they face the Las Vegas Raiders at home next week.
