Commanders bring Jayden Daniels' season filled with injuries to a close

Jaden Daniels’ Season Concludes

Jaden Daniels’ season has come to an end. The coaching staff has decided to rest the injury-stricken quarterback for the remaining three games, allowing him to focus on recovery and preparation for the 2026 season.

Dan Quinn, head coach of the Commanders, addressed the media on Monday, mentioning that “a lot of work” went into the decision to bench the sophomore quarterback.

Daniels missed out on the recent victory against the Giants due to a left elbow injury that had been aggravated the previous week.

Quinn clarified that the choice was based on medical advice as well as team considerations. “As of now, he’s not fully cleared to play. Last week was a short one, and results weren’t available until the weekend, combined with the upcoming Christmas game,” Quinn explained. “I think this decision will help him use the next few weeks productively.”

Despite being sidelined, Daniels is eager to participate in practices and to support starting quarterback Marcus Mariota, who has stepped up in his absence.

In the 2024 season, Daniels was recognized as the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year and played a key role in leading the Commanders to the NFC Championship Game. Unfortunately, his second season hasn’t gone as smoothly, with injuries limiting his appearances to just seven games in 2025.

This season, he dealt with knee, hamstring, and elbow injuries, contributing to the Commanders’ struggles, finishing with a 4-10 record. Over the course of the season, he passed for 1,262 yards, with eight touchdowns and three interceptions. Additionally, he rushed for 278 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns.

Looking ahead, the Commanders are set to face the Eagles twice before wrapping up the season against the Cowboys.
