The Washington Commanders' nickname has been a sticking point for the organization since it was changed from the Redskins before the start of the 2020 season.
This football team was known as the Redskins since 1933 when it was based in Boston. The franchise won three Super Bowls and two NFL Championships as the Redskins. However, continued accusations of racism surrounding the nickname and a summer of racial unrest led former team owner Daniel Snyder to officially retire the nickname altogether.

The Redskins changed to the Washington Football Team and then to the Commanders in 2022.
Despite petitions and rallies calling for the team to revert to its old nickname, team marketing director Patrick Arthur made it clear: washington post That means there is no going back.
“We'd love to have it back when it's ready,” he said in an article published Friday. “To be honest, it's on their terms. As our owners have said, we're not going back to the old name. It's not something we can do. We're going to carry on the tradition.'' And a lot of what we do is honoring the past, and when they're ready to come back, whether it's wearing our merch or wearing our old gear.'' I can't wait for them to come back, whether they're there or not. ”

Arthur added that it was “important” to write a new chapter in the organization's history.
Now, the new chapter is firmly under the direction of quarterback Jaden Daniels. He garnered Offensive Rookie of the Year attention through the first six weeks of the season.

At the end of Week 6, Washington dominated the AFC East with a 4-2 record, and Daniels had 1,404 passing yards and six touchdowns.
