Commanders rookie phenom Jayden Daniels slams helmet in frustration after suffering rib injury vs Panthers

Washington Commanders star rookie Jaden Daniels may not return to the game against the Carolina Panthers after injuring his ribs in the first quarter.

Daniels was visibly frustrated and in pain on the sideline after attempting a few throws to see if he could overcome his symptoms and play. The No. 2 overall pick slammed his helmet on the turf before being taken to the locker room for an X-ray.

Daniels was listed as questionable to return to the game as Marcus Mariota took over as quarterback for the Commanders.

It's unclear exactly when Daniels was injured, but he hit the ground hard after completing a 46-yard run with his first touch of the game.

As the CBS broadcast showed, Daniels went down awkwardly on his next run attempt and was hit on second-and-goal for a loss of three yards. With Daniels receiving medical attention on the sideline, the managers eventually kicked a field goal to make it 10-0. Washington had a pick-six on its first drive of the game.

Commanders executive says changing back to Redskins nickname is “not something we can do.''

Daniels is part of a 4-2 team that opens Sunday and is the frontrunner for Offensive Rookie of the Year this season.
