Commentators, insiders deride Biden calling to ‘politically’ lock Trump up: ‘No cleanup that is possible’

President Biden has called for “politically” restraining his predecessor, sparking a wave of anger and ridicule.

Speaking in Concord, New Hampshire, Biden touted legislation on health care and prescription drug costs, saying former President Trump wanted to eliminate his political opponents and detractors. “I know it sounds weird. If you said this five years ago, you would have locked me up,” Biden said. “We have to lock him up. Lock him up politically, lock him out. That's what we have to do.”

Biden appeared to come to his senses at the moment, saying he had no intention of jailing his political opponents, but the incident still spread on social media and in both political parties.

Axios national political correspondent Alex Thompson notes that a former Biden administration official said this could be politically detrimental to Vice President Kamala Harris, saying, “We have to lock up Joe.” He claimed to have sent a text message.

Biden says Harris handled “everything from foreign policy to domestic policy” during his administration

In contrast, a current Biden administration official told reporters, “For better or worse, no one listens to him anymore, and his words have little power and limited reach. It's an event, and it will be gone in a meaningful way by noon tomorrow,” he was quoted as saying. If it gets that long. ”

Trump campaign press secretary Caroline Levitt responded to the incident on social media. By declaring: “Joe Biden just admitted the truth. His and Kamala's plan all along has been to politically persecute their opponent, President Trump, because they can't defeat him fair and square. A real threat to our principles. We call out Kamala.'' Harris condemns Joe Biden's disgraceful comments. ”

Steve Guest, a Republican communications expert, wrote on There will be no clean-up.''

”[T]The only reason this is offensive is because Democrats have been spreading propaganda for years that all the institutions they control are the party of the rule of law and norms. Otherwise, these statements are just platitudes,” said Washington Free Beacon reporter Joe Gabriel Simonson.

Kamala Harris avoids question about Biden's mental breakdown: 'Joe Biden is not on the ballot'

Atlantic contributor Tyler Austin Harper suggested the incident is shocking not because of Biden's actions, but because Democrats remain dependent on him.

“I don't think this is a meaningful gaffe. No one cares,” he wrote. “I think anyone who thinks this animatronic wax figure whose battery literally dies as he speaks is helping Harris on the campaign trail is completely insane, and doubly insane, because he's still nuclear. I have the code.”
