Community college graduation in Connecticut turns chaotic as two families engage in a fierce fight

Graduation Brawl Leads to Arrests

It was supposed to be a day of celebration, but things took a wild turn at a graduation ceremony in Connecticut. A brawl erupted at the event held at Gateway Community College’s Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater, resulting in the arrest of three individuals.

Reports indicated that chaos ensued when two families reportedly exchanged blows, leading to an all-out scuffle around 6:15 p.m. The police were called in to break it up.

One parent expressed frustration with the arena’s security, feeling they were too slow to respond to the escalating situation. “I was really appalled and outraged that there was no response when the violent situation occurred,” the parent stated. “It’s unbelievable that an arena of that size doesn’t have protocols and security to keep an eye on the situation.”

The individuals arrested included Tivona Bradley, 28, from New Haven, along with Takira Simmons and Erika Price, both from New York, aged 34 and 35, respectively.

In an official statement, the university noted that diplomas were temporarily withheld while the police managed the incident. They mentioned, “An altercation involving a spectator occurred during a graduation ceremony at Gateway.” The statement emphasized their commitment to safety at university events.

Interestingly, a spokesperson for the amphitheater, Andy Nunn, defended the venue’s security measures. He asserted that the event had sufficient staffing, including ushers, Connecticut State University Police, and additional law enforcement present outside the facility.

Following the brawl, both Bradley and Price were charged with assaulting a public safety officer as well as second-degree breach of peace, while Simmons faced a charge of second-degree breach of peace.
