Investigation into Funding of Anti-ICE Protests
An investigation is currently underway regarding the financial backing of anti-immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protests in Los Angeles and other major U.S. cities. This follows reports from several large companies that they received requests for support in organizing these riots.
One such company, Crowds On Demand, which specializes in providing crowds for protests, mentioned that it received “high-budget requests” to participate in these anti-ICE demonstrations. However, the company opted not to get involved. A representative stated their commitment to avoiding any illegal actions, like violence or vandalism, which they feel could arise during such events.
The spokesperson elaborated, saying that while they are approached for organizing efforts around various social causes—including anti-ICE protests—just receiving a request doesn’t guarantee engagement, especially when budget constraints apply.
Senators Investigate Possible Support for Riot Funding
In response to the unrest, Senator Josh Hawley has initiated an inquiry into several organizations suspected of financially supporting the protests. Letters were sent to these groups as they explore their potential involvement.
According to a statement from the senator, these organizations have supposedly offered logistical and financial backing to those who engage in disruptive behaviors during the protests. Hawley emphasized that financially supporting civil unrest does not fall under protected speech; it aligns with criminal activities, and thus must be curtailed effectively.
Furthermore, there are discussions among other officials about the motives of California Governor Gavin Newsom, especially regarding his campaign funding. Some speculate that there might be a conflict of interest, considering that an organization linked to the riots reportedly donated a significant sum to Newsom’s campaign.
Another organization receiving scrutiny is Chirla, known for its past campaigns to abolish ICE and believed to be central to the current protests. Statements from various representatives suggest that they might have played a role in coordinating some of the protest logistics.
According to IRS records, Chirla has received substantial government funding, prompting questions about its influence on political actions and community unrest. However, there is no confirmed evidence linking them directly to the current riot behaviors.
Local Officials Respond to Unrest
In response to the disruptions in Los Angeles, Mayor Karen Bass strongly denounced the violence and looting associated with the protests. She stated in an interview that such actions are unacceptable and will be prosecuted, emphasizing the need for accountability.
The mayor’s office has implemented a curfew in areas affected by the riots, designating it a measure to manage those deemed “bad actors” who do not represent the immigrant community. Bass insisted that law enforcement will take action against anyone violating the curfew.
Fox News Digital has reached out to both Chirla and Newsom’s offices for comments regarding this situation but has yet to receive a response.
